There are many benefits to riding in a group. You can talk with other riders, while sharing the effort. One can save allot of energy by riding close to other riders. You will be able to ride faster than you normally could on your own, and of course there is safety in numbers. Help with mechanical problems is always close at hand. If you have never experienced riding with a group of even 6 or 8 cyclists in formation on the road, you may be surprised at the speeds you can attain.Typically all road rides with the
NBCC are in a single file formation. This is usually due to limited shoulder room and vehicle traffic. Where possible, and when group size is large enough, a double file is preferable. Double file makes chatting with other riders easier, and encourages short pulls at the front. Double file is also usually safer even on narrow roads, as it discourages unsafe passing by vehicles and makes us more visible as a group. Historically we have maintained single file pace lines, our goal is to work toward a double pace line. Education of the public regarding our rights is necessary on this front. If you find yourself in a small group with unbalanced abilities, just take very short pulls at the front, and rotate straight through. No one will mind, and it keeps the group together.Check out this site to read more in-depth about group riding techniques, tips, etc.. a great resource for the cyclist!
Check out this government site for bike fit, saftey info etc… As a member of the North Bay Cycling Club, all riders are expected to follow the rules of the road.By setting a good example, especially during club activites, it promotes a positive perception by the public. CSA/ANSI/IEC approved helmets are to be worn at all times during club activities. It just makes sense!Try to be courteous to other users of the road, remember you are not just representing the club, but your fellow cyclists as a whole.
