Club Meeting December 18th 7:00 PM Twiggs Coffee Shop

Twiggs LogoJoin us at Twiggs Coffee Shop on Tuesday December 18th for a club meeting to discuss plans for 2008.

Club Meeting Summary January2007

NBCC LogoSome minor changes to report for the 2007 season following our first meeting.

The Monday night road ride will be rolled into the exisiting Tuesday night ride. The Tuesday night ride will have a defined structure designed to integrate the two groups. Initial pace to Callander will be controlled, then everyone has teh option of continuing with the faster group, or making their way back to town with others at a more reasonable pace. Hopefully this will improve the enjoyment for everyone, and allow for room to grow.

Interclub road rides with the Sudbury Cycling Club were brought up again, and everyone agreed that wew should try to arrange at least two of these for the 2007 season. One on home turf and one in Sudbury.

Jerseys: We are working on some quotes from other jersey vendors for this year. We are soliciting feedback from anyone regarding the current jerseys, fit, quality, desgin, etc.. Also anyone who would like to buy on this year, we need to hear from you as well! We would like to order womens specific jerseys this year and are shooting for a pre-order of at least 8. So please drop an email to give us an idea of sizes and quantity.

Off-Road: Ed Wozney has resigned his position as off-road coordinator, Christian Prost has taken over for 2007. Christian has planned to have the Wedneday night races at North Bay Nordic Ski Club Located at 630 Northshore Road. From Highway 11/17 in North Bay travel east on Highway 63 (Trout Lake Road)for approximately 9 kilometres until you reach Peninsula Road.Turn south (right turn if you are coming from North Bay) and travel for 1/2 kilometres until you reach the Portage pub.As you pass the pub turn left onto Northshore Road and travel approximately 2 kilometres to the club.Parking is on the north side of Northshore Road just past the clubhouse. NBNSC as last year, and have a Friday 6:00PM ride leaving from North Riders as well.

Youth Development: Dave Hill has will be starting up a small youth development program for kids wanting to ride and race off-road. We are currently trying to arrange for a grant to pay for coaching costs for Level 1 NCCP. The development co-ordinator position at the OCA has recently changed hands so we are unsure of mountain bike specific training beyond the general NCCP course. More info will come through the spring.

North Bay Duathlon: Race director for the new North Bay Duathlon, Ian Asletine, has done alot of preliminary work to prepare for this July 29th race date. We are currently working on a website for the NBDU and hope to have it up by the end of February

15June2006 Meeting Summary

The second directors meeting of 2006.  Discussion was dominated by the transition of the Lost in the Rocks and Trees race away from the club and over to Nick Green and his race comittee…

Nick Green started off the meeting answering some questions about this years race.

Specifically, the directors needed to vote on approving a loan of $1500.00 to the Lost in the Rocks and Trees race account for startup money for this years race expenses.  The race brought in around $3000.00 to the club last year, and most of the startup money was out of pocket from Laura, it was agreed that even though the race is not being run by the club this year, we should support the “event” and it’s transition this year.

Purchase of a club banner for use at the Wednesday night races or other events was approved with a cost estimate of $150.00.

Purchase of a club race tent was discussed, (10′ X 10′ Caravan Canada Aluma tent), was discussed, and was deferred until the fall.

Off road skills clinic scheduling was discussed and will be setup for a Wednesday night this summer.

Wednesday night races, goals, and long term plans were discussed.

Long term planning of new events was discussed for 2007 with possible candidates:  Duathalon in August or off road race in North Bay.

27MArch2006 Meeting Summary

I think we’re getting the hang of this, we had a solid, productive meeting at the North Bay Public Library summarized here:

Beginner road rides will be held every Monday night, departing from North Riders on King St. at 6:00PM.  The first 10 weeks will be lead be an experienced rider on a rotating schedule.  For slower riders attending the Tuesday and Thursday road rides there will also be several options.  Including extra distance, intervals, etc… for faster riders to keep the group together.

The Lost in the Rocks and Trees Enduro race route is to be re designed for a 50KM circuit used by both the 100KM and 50KM race.  This allows us to better use our volunteers and reduce the area neede to search for injured riders.  It should also allow for some  singletrack and design changes to the course.

Clubs finances, we have decided to move towards a minimum two directors signatures required to write any cheques on the club account. A PO Box is to be rented for use by the club for most mailings, ($161.00/year), and will appear on the new cheques.  All expenses are to flow through the new treasurer, Andrew Rees.

Club logo decals have been put out for quote, and were decided on.  They will be 1″X2″ vinyl three colour decals suitable for bikes, helmets, etc..  1 given out per membership, per year at a total cost not to exceed $200.00

Club T-Shirts sponsored by Momentum, Cheapskates, and North Riders, are almost ready for screening and shoudl be ready soon.  Plenty of smaller sizes will be available, 1 free to each member!

Club information poster to be designed through the local highschools and printed with little or no cost to the club.

2006 Season Planning Meeting

The first meeting for the club for 2006 included representation from the three major bike shops in North Bay, (Momentum, Cheapskates, and the soon to be opening North Riders).   We wanted to inform everyone of our plans for the 2006 season, and asked the shops for their ideas on how they could help.  2006 membership applications are now available in the shops, the club will be working on a small info poster to go along with the applications this spring.  North Bay Cycling T-shirts are now in the works and should be available for the spring.  These will have the club logo on the front along with the shops logos on the back, and will be given free with each 2006 club membership!  15% discounts at Cheapskates and North Riders (for accesories) has been extended for 2006 to members.  Cheapskates has also committed to running the lube station/checkpopint for the Race as they did last year.  North Riders will be hosting the bike maintenance clinics at their shop for club members, the first one is already booked for April 15th.A big thank-you to the to shops for coming out and showing their interest in the club and it’s goals!  Here’s hoping for a great 2006 season for everyone!

12Oct2005 Meeting Summary

The following is a summary from the directors meeting held on October 12th 2005: The purpose of this meeting was to discuss goals for the 2006 season.

  • We decided that we would re-visit the possibility of applying for a Trillium Foundation grant next year.
  • Discussed the core goals of the club and are currently working on an official mission statement.
  • Decided to create a club schedule for next season mapping out most group rides, (down to the route), maintenance and skills clinics.
  • Decided to create a short survey for all members to contribute their thoughts on our first year.
  • Discussed member retention, new member recruitment, and what we offer as a club.
  • Hashed out some ideas for creating a new event for North Bay, namely a full length duathlon in August.  (This project is being actively pursued)

09Sep2005 Meeting Summary

The first official meeting of the now incorporated North Bay Cycling Club was concluded on Friday night.  Eight directors have been appointed with room for two more.  The directors are as follows:

Aaron Thompson  - President -

Aaron Duquette    - Vice President -

Andrew Rees    - Treasurer -  Updated 11Oct2005

Ryan Travers       - Secretary -

Laura Kielpinski -Lost in the Rocks and Trees-

Roslyn Prisco

Ed Wozney

Kevin Stoppa

Committes will be formed at the next meeting headed by various directors.

After the formalities were completed we had a short discussion about the Mattawa race, its success this year and futured direction.  There are also some exicting new partnership possibilities for next years race.

It was resolved by all directors that more needs to be done to maintain a broad range of cyclists interset in club rides.  Specifically there will be speed groupings during road rides to ensure that everyone can ride within their own ability in a group setting.  Too many people have some out only to get discouraged after getting dropped on weekday rides.  The speed groupings will start officially this coming spring, however there will be some trials done during Sunday rides this year.
