It is a great ride consisting of 50, 100 and 160km routes , very scenic.

Ontario Cup1 2008

Results from the Chico Racing Ontario Cup #1 for 2008, held at Mansfield Outdoor Centre on April 27th.

Dave and Daniel Hill competed in the cold. Daniel placed 3rd in the Minime Male category, (way to go Daniel!). His dad Dave won the Masters category with almost a minute to spare on the second place finisher.

Mac Senior of North Bay also placed 12th, and Graham Mutchmor placed 26th in the Minime category. There was quite a good showing from North Bay riders at this, the first Ontario Cup race of the year. Great start to the 2008 season guys!

BBQ Fundraiser Saturday April 26th at Cheapskates

Cheapskates sports in downtown North Bay is brining in a load of Jamis bikes for a sale on Saturday April 26th. Barry suggested we have a BBQ to raise money for the club, so from 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM we will be having a BBQ.
Sign-up forms and club jerseys will be available, so visit us between 11and 3 as we wil have all sizes available. Jerseys are $55.00 for members, and membership is $40.00 , cash or cheque payable to the club.

Dave Henschel will also be there with information on professional bike fit sessions. If you have never been properly fitted before, it is well worth it. Even the most experienced cyclist will learn something about there current position on their machine.

Road rides are a go

In case you may have heard otherwise, the club is continuing for 2008. We are seeing renewed interest, with new members joining. Just a reminder that if you want to sign-up, we will be at cheapskates on Saturday April 26th between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Jerseys will be available for sale as well, more details to follow…

Weather permitting weekday road rides are a go for 2008. Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:00 PM leaving from Cheapskates parking lot.

Off-Roading at North Bay Nordic

I was talking with Kevin at Cycleworks today, he mentioned some planning in the works to continue with the off roading at NBNSC. I’m happy that there is still interest to keep things going as it’s has potential to be a great venue for races. The plan was for Wed 6 PM rides. Hopefully more details will come out as the weather improves this spring!

2008 Cycling Season is fast approaching!

The 2008 affiliation paperwork has been sent in, and as with many things the price has gone up. The OCA has significantly increased our insurance fees this year. As a result we will have to increase our membership amount to $40 just to cover costs. I will be bringing membership forms to the Thursday night spin classes at the Nip U Rec Center on March 27th, (the March 20th class is cancelled).Good news for young athletes aged 6-15! This year the Kiwannis North Bay Triathlon will be holding a kids Tri on Saturday June 28th before the adult event. Updates and details available at racenorthbay.org

With winter looming, and the spring cycling season a long way off, what are we to do to keep our competitive drive? I think we all knew that there was only one answer, Dodgeball! We are still in the planning stages, but here are some thoughts:

When: Monday evenings around 8:00 pm
Where: Local public school gym
Rules: We will use the rules from the movie as a starting point and take it from there.

Bicycling in Bulgaria

I get emails from “Boris from Bulgaria” every so often, enticing us to come to Bulgaria for cycle tours. Boris and Maya are a father daughter duo that lead bike tours, sounds idyllic. I can’t say Bulgaria is the first place that comes to mind when I think “out of country cycling”. But if I can wear my Oakleys from 1982 and look hip with my cut off jean shorts then it might be fun!

New NBCC Site for 2008

After all the problems with the previous CMS, I have opted to go with Wordpress for the new site. It’s not as flashy, but is standards compliant and keeps features to a minimum. I have imported much of the posts from the old site, ~~although there is no forum~~, there is commenting.

Scroll down and click register to signup on the site. This will add you to the email list and allow commenting.

With this change will also come some changes for the club going forward into 2008, updates here soon…

NBDU Volunteers Needed

Hey everyone,I’m coming to you from the North Bay Duathlon requesting anyone willing to help out with our race scheduled for Sunday July 29, 2007. It is the first year we are putting on this event, and as it is being put on by the NBCC, the organizers would love to see as many club faces out either racing or helping out.If you are interested in helping out, please contact me, Ian Aseltine, at racenorthbay.org under “contacts”, or directly at ianaseltine@yahoo.ca.Also, the NBCC has typically supported the North Bay Triathlon, which is coming to us on MONDAY July 2 this year. I will be out there helping set up the transition area among other things on Sunday July 1 sometime in the afternoon. Last year there were a few club members helping, and Mike Burke, the tri organizer, would love to see some club members out helping again this year.
