Dave and Daniel Hill competed in the cold. Daniel placed 3rd in the Minime Male category, (way to go Daniel!). His dad Dave won the Masters category with almost a minute to spare on the second place finisher.

Mac Senior of North Bay also placed 12th, and Graham Mutchmor placed 26th in the Minime category. There was quite a good showing from North Bay riders at this, the first Ontario Cup race of the year. Great start to the 2008 season guys!

Off-Roading at North Bay Nordic

I was talking with Kevin at Cycleworks today, he mentioned some planning in the works to continue with the off roading at NBNSC.  I’m happy that there is still interest to keep things going as it’s has potential to be a great venue for races.  The plan was for Wed 6 PM rides.  Hopefully more details will come out as the weather improves this spring!

Ontario Summer Games 2006

The North Cycle Club represented the region of North Bay/Sault St. Marie at the Ontario Summer Games Aug 09-11, 2006.
The mountain bike event consisted of 12, four person teams made up of three males and 1 female. Each team competed in 3 events. An 8-km time trial, a 3-km four person relay and a 24 km cross country event. The three competitions saw teams compete against each other while earning points towards their team performance.
The competitors from the North Bay Cycle Club were Mac Senior, Daniel Hill, Deanna Bootan and Scott Hill, ages 12,12,13 and 14 respectively. Mac was the youngest and Daniel the second youngest of the 48 competitors.
The mountain bike events were held at Camp Fortune in the Gatineau Hills. The trails consisted of numerous grueling climbs and technical single track. The 24-km cross-country event was by far the longest single race any of these young athletes competed in.
The highlight of the cross country race was seeing the North Bay Cycle Club jersey worn proudly on the podium, as Deanna won the silver medal in the female category. She also missed the bronze medal in the time trial by 4 seconds after suffering a mechanical.
The members of the team would like to express a special thanks to Momentum Bikes and Boards, Cheap Skates and North Riders for their generous support. Thanks also to the parents and NBCC club members for their assistance in making attending this event possible.

Wed Night Trail Cleanup post July2006 Storm

We have reports coming in that all local trails have been hit hard by the recent storm. They are all unrideable until the fallen trees can be removed.  For this Wed July26th, we will be working on the Northshore/Nordic trails.  People will be meeting at the Portage at 6:00PM, regular ride time.  We are in major need of  chainsaws.  The club is working on a program to provide gas, bar oil, two stroke oil, and possibly chain sharpening to all those volunteers who can help out.  Until further notice, plan on all Wed night to run as work nights.

The club recently applied for, (thanks to Dave Henschel), and received a $500.00 IMBA Canadatrails grant.  This was to be applied to trail marking, banner for Wed night races, weed wacker, etc.  This may, if possible, be changed to suit the changed landscpae we are forced to work with.

NBCC 2006 IMBA Affiliation

New for the club for 2006, our application for IMBA club affiliation has been sent in. IMBA affiliation joins our members with people all over the world who’s goal is to “create, enhance, and preserve trail opportunities for mountain bikers throughout Canada.”It also give the club access to a wealth of knowledge about trail building techniques, and advocacy. As well as eligibility to apply for trail building grants and have hands on trail building sessions. We are forunate to have the Northern Ontario IMBA Rep as a club member, (Ed Wozney). He will be at the IMBA booth at the Toronto bike show in March, so stop in if you are there
